NB - this show runs for two nights - 1st and 2nd December

Long before the tradition of carolling, festive revellers would go house-to-house, exchanging songs for money, food and ale.

Coming from the old English waes hael, ‘wassail’ is a toast wishing good health.

This Christmas, Eliza Carthy and Jon Boden combine their considerable talents and reputations within the UK folk scene for a nationwide wassail, wishing good health to all.

Presenting seasonal material amongst a stage of illuminated Christmas trees, they will take audiences back to some of the oldest songs in the English canon, spreading good cheer and lighting up the darkest days of the year.

California-born but now based in  Manchester, UK, Jesca Hoop is what you’d call a musician’s musician. Discovered by Tom Waits, and brought on tour by Peter Gabriel to sing in his band, it was a phone call from Elbow’s Guy Garvey that saw her move to the UK. Hoop’s 6 studio albums including her most recent album “Order of Romance”,  produced by John Parish (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding, This is the Kit), all received huge acclaim from critics and fans alike, and it’s easy to see why: Jesca Hoop is one of our most captivating singers. Her beautiful songs, rooted in the folk tradition are intricately detailed, acoustic-led pieces that teem with ideas, expertly crafted lyrics and melodies that spring from a deeply curious imagination.

Growing up inside a cult, Katey Brooks found refuge in song. A rebellious artist that resists formula, the ‘powerful’ (Evening Standard) award-winning singer, songwriter & producer brings a seamless blend of Americana, Folk and Pop to listeners’ ears, which has earned her radio play from BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, 6music, Canada’s CBC, Jazz FM, and Amazing Radio amongst many others.

“She had the crowd eating out of her hands” The Independent

No stranger to the stage, Brooks has toured in the US, Australia, Canada, Europe and the UK. She has shared bills with artists like Cat Burns, Nick MulveyNewton Faulkner, and Yola, as well as playing big name festivals such as Glastonbury, WOMAD, Paralympics 2012, the Australian National Folk Festival, and several BBC Introducing stages, to name a few.

KB’s album Revolute was released in 2019 to huge critical acclaim across the world including a ‘Best Album of the Year’ credit from music magazine Popdust, and premiers for the singles from BillboardPride Magazine, and Gay Times. Since then she has released a live album, several singles, and had multiple collaborations including upcoming track with award-winning Blues artist, Elles Bailey.

Brooks’ vocals have featured on records with Brian May (Queen), Bill Wyman (Rolling Stones), Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) and Paloma Faith. Her music has been used in the West End (PRIDE), TV (Hulu’s Harlots soundtrack) and film (My Christmas Hero). She has so far earned three Best Original Song awards at film festivals.

Brooks has made fans out of her influences and heroes including Joss StoneNick Van Eede (Cutting Crew), and Chris Difford (Squeeze) who have all spoken warm words of support for her. It’s safe to say she has been catching the attention of big names, with her song ’All Of Me’ making the finals in the International Songwriting Competition in 2023, whose judges included Mariah CareyColdplay & Tom Waits.

With 205 songs written in 200 days in 2023, expect to hear a lot from Katey Brooks in 2024/5

It’s hard to do justice to the Gerry Colvin live experience. Bad jokes. Awful puns. Flapping hands. Oh and songs that are funny, sad, poignant and very very catchy. Expect a Mexican Wave, the only song in the English language to feature the word tarmac and to leave with a lovely warm, Christmassy glow.

Gerry will be joined by some of his fabulous musical friends and it will, as always, be a truly wonderful night. (NB we won’t have the full orchestra!)

The idea behind Ryepiece House Concerts is to bring some amazing musicians to our village and let them perform in a relaxed and intimate setting.

We are always on the look out for interesting artists from the worlds of folk, jazz, blues and beyond who will engage and entertain an audience who in all likelihood have never heard them before.

A night of folk with Greenman Rising and special guests Liam Vincent and the Odd Foxes & Daisybell. A hardcore tradition for modern audiences. Driving dance tunes, songs about love, war, murder and betrayal. The soldier who rebels against an invasion and the sailor cheated when he comes on shore. Beautiful ballads and full-on musical madness that’ll get you dancing the night away.
