Another coup for Temperance. The "Welsh Tornado" is one of the most blistering acoustic guitarists in the world. Come and be astonishe.
We're so pleased to have nabbed Gareth on his brief visit to the UK. He's played with all the greats. Tommy Emmanuel was so impressed he even named a song after him...
Often dubbed “The Welsh Tornado”, Gareth Pearson has earned international acclaim for his breathtaking blend of fingerstyle pyrotechnics, explosive lead runs, and dazzling showmanship. His performances deliver not only jaw-dropping technical skill but also warmth, wit, and a deep connection with his audience.
Gareth’s playing spans a wide spectrum of genres—country, folk, classical, pop, rock, jazz, swing, bluegrass—woven together with his own intricate and emotive original compositions. His arrangements are as innovative as they are moving, establishing him as one of today’s most exciting acoustic musicians.
He has shared stages with icons including Ray Davies (The Kinks), John Renbourn, Southside Johnny, Jan Akkerman, Andy McKee, and his mentor Tommy Emmanuel, who has described Gareth as a force of nature on the guitar. Rooted in influences such as Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Jerry Reed, and Tommy Emmanuel, Gareth has carved out a style uniquely his own—equal parts inspiring, entertaining, and unforgettable. His stage presence, sprinkled with off-the-cuff humor, elevates his concerts into truly memorable experiences.

Step Right Up: Songs of Tom WaitsThe Pavilion Café, Chesterton Road, Lighthorne CV35 0AD
Step right up and accept our invitation to the blues as Lighthorne Folk veterans Chris Johnson, Nick Johnson and Alex Davis team up with blues singer and harmonica player extraordinaire Stuart Maxwell to bring their eclectic selection of Tom Waits’ brilliant songs to Lighthorne Folk for the first time.
Join us on a journey from Waits’ folky 70s singer-songwriter origins through tender ballads, twisted blues, black comedy, smoky jazz, spoken word, graveyard gospel, haunted lullabies and Faustian cabaret.
Tom Waits is a true original with such an idiosyncratic vocal style he can’t be copied and each of his albums inhabits its own sonic world. A prolific songwriter, his diverse catalogue has been covered by artists including Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, Bette Midler, John Hammond, The Ramones, Pearl Jam, Johnny Cash, The Eagles, Norah Jones, Blind Boys of Alabama, Scarlett Johansson and Robert Plant & Alison Krauss.
This is not a tribute show to Tom Waits' stage persona - no hats, no attempts at imitation - but it is a celebration of some of the best songs of the past 50 years. Even if you’re not a die-hard Waits fan, you probably know more than you think….
This show will have two sets with an interval, and may involve use of a loudhailer.
Banknote jug collection – please bring cash!
